Film review: Crazy Rich Asians

You know the story. You know how it ends. There’s no weird twists; nothing to strain your brain. Just a great excuse to relax and eat some popcorn.

It’s a RomCom.

Fun, funny, predictable, entertaining.

Sometimes that’s all you need.

Great to see this classic story line played out by different faces and in a different location. A great way to showcase Singapore, even if most of us will never enter the crazy, rich world of the movie.

4/5 stars for being an enjoyable interpretation of a classic theme.

Upcycling … The shirts off our backs

Do you have a favourite t-shirt you no longer wear but can’t bear to part with? Why not upcycle it?

Have you ever watched one of those Facebook videos and saved it for later, only to forget all about it? Yep, me too.

Or I’ve gone back and looked and thought, “That’s too hard”. Continue reading Upcycling … The shirts off our backs

Iceblocks for Adults: Piña Colada

20171209_161810

Ingredients:

Pineapple (the sweeter, the better)

Coconut liqueur of your choice

Equipment:

Jug

Blender

Iceblock moulds

Funnel for pouring (if needed)

Method:

Dice pineapple (leave out the core) and pulp with the blender. I use a stick mixer and pulp it in the jug that I’m going to mix in and pour from.

Add coconut liqueur to taste. I use 1:3. So, for example, for 600ml pineapple pulp add 200ml coconut rum.

Pour into iceblock moulds. Don’t overfill as the mixture will expand and the lids may pop off.

Freeze, eat, enjoy.

Dear Fellow Road User

Dear Fellow Road User,

Yes, I know you’re a pedestrian and that I have to give way to you. Could I just suggest that you give me a chance to see you?

When I’m driving on the highway and I see the school bus is stopped picking up kids I do slow down, even if I’m not required to.

But when you step out from in front of the bus and onto the 100kmh road then, no matter how much I’ve slowed down, you scare the shit out of me.

Maybe you could take the time to walk to the back of the bus so that approaching traffic can see you.

Just saying.

Sincerely,

Me.

The path of death and survival

I blame the smoke for my tears.

It was hot, steamy and fires in the area made it smoky too.

Nothing to do with thinking about the thousands of prisoners of war who died there or those, like my Uncle Dick, who survived and came home but were forever changed.

To walk part of the notorious Thai-Burma railway, including Hellfire Pass, was a truly emotional journey for me.

No matter how uncomfortable I was, it was only a drop in the ocean compared to the suffering this path has seen.
